<p>The mallard is actually one of the most common ducks.  The males are often referred to as “greenheads” and their main wintering area if in the lower Mississippi basin and along the Gulf Coast.  You can find them up North as well, pretty much anywhere that open water permits them to be during the winter.</p>
<p>The best time to catch them is early in the morning or late afternoon. These are the hours when the flocks tend to feed and they can be spotted in harvesting fields near the water source.  They return to the marshes and creeks at night.  Their flight isn’t very fast, making it easier to target them for hunting than some other ducks.</p>
